Like its predecessor Brooklyn Beta, Kinference is a small, friendly web conference.

More of a peer gathering than a formal event, Kinference is a space for the Internet’s optimists to come together offline and rally around a message of hope for the future of the Web.

Yes, there are tons of (legitimate!) reasons to be angry at the direction the Internet has taken and get bogged down by the lack of humanity we see anytime we open up a browser, but now is not the time to walk away and toss a lit match behind us.

Instead, let’s consider how we can build a more humanistic Internet. One where technology supports our shared well-being, sense-making, democracy, and ability to tackle complex global challenges, and also serves as a medium to spread joy and fun.

It’s easy to reminisce about the magic of the “good old days.” And it’s true; the Internet really was different then. But so was the world. We can’t live in the past. We need to figure out how we can capture the magic of then, but in a way that makes sense for the world of today.

That’s something we have to do together. How will we do it? 300 experienced, talented, and kind Internet professionals spending two days in Brooklyn, re-connecting on a personal level, reflecting on the past, taking a critical look at the present, and considering where we may go from here.

There will be food. There will be fun. There will be a small selection of lovely speakers (who will remain a surprise up until the event itself). But most importantly, there will be you, and you are what makes it special.

Can’t wait to see you.

Update 1: Kinference is currently sold out, but there is a waitlist. If you’re interested in attending or volunteering, please contact: kinference@fictivekin.com.

Update 2: Kinference has been postponed until October 1 & 2, 2020. We are hoping that by then the pandemic will have subsided and it will be safe to gather together. If that is not the case, we will further postpone the event.
